Germany: strong in exports
Overview
Modern trade flows connect the world and create and secure prosperity.
Since 2000, global trade has almost doubled and, apart from the crisis years of 2008 and 2009, has experienced a steady upturn.
As the third largest exporter of goods in the world, trade and logistics chains play a major role for German industry.
Even the coronavirus crisis was only able to change this in the short term; the pre-crisis level was already reached in June 2021 (source: Federal Statistical Office).
Around 90 percent of global trade takes place by sea (source: Federal Government). German seaports therefore play an important role. Gebrüder Schwanke has in-depth knowledge of the structure of the German port industry and has successfully filled a management position in this sector (link: case study).
Commodities form the basis of global growth. They are traded on international commodity futures markets. To be successful as a trader here, you always need to have an ear to the market and a complex understanding of the connections between global markets, the political situation in key countries and singular local events. We have already successfully filled metal alloy dealerships and are familiar with the narrowness of this market and the traditional approach in this sector.
Logistics as a science forms the basis for modern process optimization. Both in the production environment and in trade, the question of when, which material or which person is in which place is of central importance. In a way, logistics is the mother of many KPI-oriented CIP and Kaizen approaches.

What we do
Since its foundation, Gebrüder Schwanke has accompanied a large number of projects in the areas of production and logistics, be it management, classic plant or production management, management positions in operations and logistics, or classic CIP employees.
We have also adopted many ideas from interviews in these projects for our own processes (Link: Processes).
Port management case study
Our client is a listed company from the metal industry that operates throughout Europe. To support its logistics and ensure the availability of production equipment, our client maintains its own port in northern Germany.
